Scholarships

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

We are now taking applications for the next academic year. The deadline for scholarship applications is the 1st of March.

DISV offers scholarship places in Grades 11 and 12 for students who wish to join the school and participate in the IB Diploma Programme. Scholarship students do not pay regular school fees but are required to pay for IB examinations (currently about 850-900 Euros) and any necessary field trips, special equipment (e.g. a graphic calculator for mathematics) and other incidental expenses. The same school rules and policies apply to both scholarship and non-scholarship students.

An outstanding academic background is essential as is a commitment to the international philosophy espoused by the school and the International Baccalaureate. In addition to this, candidates are expected to contribute actively to the work and ethos of their classes by showing leadership both inside and outside the classroom. Intellectual curiosity, as evidenced by broad reading, and a good knowledge of current issues in international relations are also expected. Scholarship candidates should have a satisfactory command of English.

Only students who would otherwise be unable to afford the tuition fees are eligible for this scholarship and may apply.

As an International Baccalaureate world school, DISV places a high value on commitment to Creativity, Action, Service (CAS), which all Grade 11 and Grade 12 students are required to do. Students have to demonstrate at least fifty hours activity outside the classroom in each of the three areas over their two year IB DP studies. Demonstrating initiative, originality and leadership in CAS is an essential part of the expectations we have of our students.

Although DISV is not a boarding school, we are prepared to accept students from outside Vienna who make their own arrangements for accommodation in the city. We can recommend boarding facilities. However, if parents are not living locally, we require a local resident adult guardian to be appointed. Such a guardian should be prepared to act 'in loco parentis'  and to visit the school as and when necessary.

Application for scholarships should be made by letter or e-mail to the director at the school's address or scholarship@danubeschool.com. The initial application should give an outline of the academic history of the candidate, the reasons for wanting to study at DISV and an indication of career goals. Applicants should be able to demonstrate interests and activities outside core academic areas especially in the areas of creativity, physical activity and community or environmental service. Copies of the last three years school reports (or a transcript) should also be sent, along with two letters of support; at least one of these being from a current teacher. Parents should also provide a letter of support.
